Course Structure

Module 1 Art Fundamentals

  • We are going through the basics of art and manga. We will learn how to use basic shapes, create faces and expressions. Further, we will learn what drawing elements mean for storytelling.

  • The following materials are included:

    • Theory sheets

    • Examples

    • Inspiration

    • Access to Sonzai Edu community

  • Three months with: one 1-hour live class per week (duration is adapted according to National Holidays)

Module 2 Body

  • We delve deeper into body proportions. We learn the differences across types of bodies according to anatomical characteristics. We learn basic 2D body positions and how to create simple character backgrounds.

  • The following materials are included:

    • Theory sheets for: body proportions, clothes, personality

    • Examples

    • Inspiration

    • Access to Sonzai Edu community

  • Three months with: one 1-hour live class per week (duration is adapted according to National Holidays)

Module 3 Perspective

  • We take a deep dive into drawing characters in all sorts of scenarios coupled with backstory for each situation we will draw. We will also learn how to better create character profiles, their relationship with other external factors and various poses in relation with multiple characters.

  • The following materials are included:

    • Theory sheets for: perspective, heads in perspective, bodies in different angles

    • Examples

    • Inspiration

    • Access to Sonzai Edu community

  • Three months with: one 1-hour live class per week (duration is adapted according to National Holidays)

Module 4 Story

  • We begin working on how to create a short manga story. We learn how to draw backgrounds, use panels, onomatopoeia and various textures.

  • The following materials are included:

    • Theory sheets: manga literature, character psychology, background theory, panels’ meaning

    • Examples

    • Inspiration

    • Access to Sonzai Edu community

  • Three months with: one 1-hour live class per week (duration is adapted according to National Holidays)

Course structure

  • Live Classes

    We will have a weekly 2 hour online class. It takes place on Google Meet, where you will be taught by one of Sonzai Edu’s teachers.

  • Homework

    Each week will have drawing exercises at home which will vary according students’ needs and progression.

    Homework is designed to boost students’ creativity and encourage them to discover their own style.

  • Additional support

    Our team is available to support students’ learning process even outside of contact hours. Through access to the Sonzai Edu community students will receive weekly inspiration, recommendations and news related to manga.
